Power for Workshops, Sheds and Light Industrial Sites

Industrial and workshop environments place unique demands on electrical systems. Machinery often starts under heavy load, compressors cycle continuously throughout the day, and high-bay lighting operates for extended periods. As a result, electrical infrastructure must be designed to handle peak demand safely and reliably, not just average usage.

Justin Purdey Electrical provides industrial electrical services throughout the Clarence Valley, supporting workshops, sheds, agricultural facilities, and light industrial premises. Our expertise includes three-phase power installation and repairs, dedicated machinery circuits, high-bay and task lighting solutions, and underground cabling between buildings.

Frequent circuit breaker trips and equipment performance issues are often caused by undersized or inadequate cabling rather than faults with the machinery itself. Identifying and addressing these electrical constraints can improve both reliability and operational efficiency. Where existing infrastructure has reached its capacity, a switchboard upgrade may be required to support current and future electrical loads safely.

Common Questions

  • The most common cause is a circuit that isn't rated for the machine's starting current, which is often several times its running current. Faulty windings, moisture in a motor or a failing contactor produce the same symptom, so the circuit and the machine both need checking.

  • It takes correctly rated underground cable, buried at the depth the wiring rules require for its type of protection. A sub-board at the far end is common, so circuits inside the shed can be switched off without cutting power to the main building.

  • It depends on what the workshop runs. Single-phase copes with hand tools and light equipment, but welders, larger compressors, lathes and three-phase motors need it, and it also spreads load more evenly across the supply.
